About this story

Maya hears an unkind idea: hiding another child’s drawing as a joke. Mum helps her pause and think before joining in. Together with Eli, they explore the Bible account of Moses and the golden calf. While Moses is away on Mount Sinai, the people ask Aaron to make gods to go ahead of them. Aaron gathers gold earrings, shapes a calf and announces a feast. Moses prays for the people, comes down the mountain with Joshua and sees what has happened. In anger, he breaks the stone tablets and destroys the calf. He questions Aaron and later asks God to forgive the people. This gentle retelling acknowledges that the full chapter contains severe consequences; grown-up notes explain the graphic events omitted from the illustrated story. In the separate modern family scenes, Maya refuses the unkind idea and the family makes welcoming pictures instead. The 29-page digital edition includes 14 distinct illustrated story scenes, Bible references beneath the relevant passages, seven discussion questions, My Little Caring Plan, a short prayer and two activities: Pause and Choose and A Welcome Picture. The notes distinguish Israel’s covenant account from a child’s everyday mistakes and explain that breaking or throwing objects is not an action to copy. Read with a grown-up, pause when needed and welcome questions. The PDF includes searchable interior text. The matching EPUB preserves the illustrated layout and requires a reader supporting fixed-layout EPUB 3.
