About this story

How do the people get ready for what comes next? Join Eli, Maya and Mum as they read Joshua’s instructions to the camp. Joshua tells the officers to carry a message through the people: prepare food, because within three days they are to cross the River Jordan to receive the land God is giving them. Joshua also speaks to Reuben, Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh. Their families and animals will remain in the land Moses gave them east of the river, while their fighting men are to go ahead and help the other Israelites. Joshua describes when the men may return. The response includes a wish for God to be with Joshua and encouragement to be strong and courageous. No battle or weapon is pictured, and the crossing has not happened yet. Separate fictional garden scenes show Maya and Eli choosing little packing jobs with Mum before a family walk. The 29-page digital edition includes fourteen distinct illustrated story scenes, Bible references, seven questions, My Little Caring Plan, a short prayer and two activities: My Getting-Ready Pictures and A Little Job Together. Preview this selected retelling: military support is mentioned. Grown-up notes explain the conquest context and identify the omitted threat of death for disobedience in verse 18. The story does not ask children to obey any adult without question. Children can ask for help, pause, point, draw or listen. The PDF has searchable interior text; the matching fixed-layout EPUB 3 needs a compatible reader and does not resize text separately.
